Children show off cooking skills
Children from two local orphanage homes, Changin Chances and Poppie Huis were on Saturday, November 9, given an opportunity to show off their cooking skills.
The children from both centres competed in a children cook-off, presented by East Rand Food Market in partnership with East Rand Events.
The event provided the children with fun and educational culinary experience.
The juniors had to prepare a pasta salads before taking on the challenge of braaing boerewors and beef steak.
Representatives from MasterChef SA East Rand Events and Changin Chances served as mentors and guest judges for the event.
Although the children were competing against each other, judges declared all of them winners, and every child received a prize and a gift for participating in the competition.
The event included live entertainment, food stalls, drink vendors and other children’s activities.
The live entertainment was voluntary provided by Jaco Vee (singer), who also gave each and every child a copy of his latest album.
Items for the competition were donated by Checkers, MasterChef SA, various stall-holders and other businesses.
For lunch, the children enjoyed the food they prepared themselves.
Organiser of the event promised to visit both centres and provide children with Christmas gifts, soon.
