Join the 16 Days of Activism Campaign

Men and boys are invited to a 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign.

The event, organised by Ithemba Victim Support Centre, will be held at the Reiger Park Civic Centre, at 10am, on November 27.

Other institutions that will be playing a role in the meeting are the Department of Home Affairs, Department of Social Development, Department of Correctional Services, Labour Department, SAPS, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, NGOs, local churches schools and business people.

Topics of discussion at the meeting will include domestic violence, rape, Maintenance Act, parenting and other social problems.

According to Angie Reiners, manager of Ithemba Victim Support Centre, Reiger Park is one of the areas that are most affected by violence against women and children.

She adds that in most cases the main contributing factors are alcohol and drugs.

The purpose of this men’s dialogue is to try and prevent gender-based violence from happening in the first place.

Reiners highlighted that in some instances, violence against women and children occur within the family.

She calls for the elimination of violence against women and invites everyone to take action against it.
