Hospital accused of negligence

Earlier this year James Moor alleged that the Tambo Memorial Hospital had been negligent while treating his mother in 2012.

Moor had stated that his mother had been taken to the hospital after she fell and hurt her hip.

“My mother was admitted into the hospital to go for hip surgery, which kept getting postponed,” said James.

“My mother was in the hospital for about two to three months. She finally had her operation, but about three weekends ago, while she was at home, I asked to see her hip, and found that there was a hole with a green string hanging out.”

Five months later and after being readmitted to the hospital, James says that the string is coming out of the wound yet again.

“This is total negligence. The nurses and doctors told me that the green string is out of her hip,” he says.

Dr Avis Naidoo, CEO of the hospital, says that the last admission of the patient was on June 24, and the patient underwent treatment for the sepsis of her right hip.

“She was discharged on the July 4, and was given a check-up appointment after one month. According to our clinical records the patient never honoured her appointment date,” he says.

Dr Naidoo adds that it is advisable that the patient return to the hospital for her check-up.
