Dance, Kotze win Ultimate Athlete X-Fit Challenge

Lauren Dance and GD Kotze won the Ultimate Athlete X-Fit Challenge in the women's and men's categories respectively, at the Sunward Park Sports Grounds on the weekend of October 5 and 6.

The challenge, which was held as a fundraising event for the New Beginnings Care Centre, saw women compete on Saturday and men on Sunday.

Dance accumulated a total of 74 points after winning four of the six events on the day.

She finished first in the 2.4km run, which was the first event in a time of 00.09.33; first in the obstacle course challenge in 00.07.15 and winner of the endurance challenge in a time of 00.02.56.

Her fourth win was the fitness challenge where she managed 1 126 repetitions – 98 more than Celeste Engelbrecht, who finished second with 1 028 repetitions.

Kotze displayed supreme athleticism and was the runaway winner in the men’s category with a tally of 72 points after also winning four of the six events of the Challenge – a 16 point gap between him and runner-up Dwayne Russell.

The burly Kotze was the only man who managed to reach the 1 000 mark in the fitness event, with a total of 1 021 repetitions, and was followed by Francois Meyer who managed 936 repetitions.

Kotze went on to win the stamina and endurance events in times of 00.03.22 and 00.02.20 respectively.

He completed his dominant showing, not without turning red in the face however, by winning the strength event, which was the last of the day in 74 seconds – with Ashley Hills taking him all the way and finishing in 73 seconds.

The Challenge returns next year.
