Jonker was a school teacher at the School of Achievement in Boksburg.
According to a good friend of Jonker, who wishes to remain anonymous, she was at the house during the nightmare incident.
“We were packing to leave with my son for a holiday trip to East London to visit my partner who had just moved there, when three men jumped the outside wall,” says the friend.
“I was at the time in the bathroom when I heard a shot fired. When I went to investigate, one of the robbers pointed a firearm at me.
“I was fortunately only roughed up a bit.”
The friend describes Jonker as a quiet and kind man, who was always willing to help people, especially children.
According to Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, the robbers took two cellphones, two wallets and a DVD machine.
“The victim was killed by a single shot to the face,” he says.
Jonker was a mathematics teacher at the School of Achievement, and dedicated 26 years of his life teaching mathematics to pupils with special needs and learning disabilities.
“He was more than just a dedicated and experienced teacher, he was also friend, and this is a tragic loss to the school,” says Tinus du Preez, principal of the school.
Du Preez says it will be difficult to replace Jonker who was a great asset to the school.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 1.
Investigations into the incident continue.
