Benoni team wins the Caxton Reynolds Race

A family fun day held at the Boksburg Rugby Club in celebration of Heritage Day, on Saturday, September 21, also saw the Benoni team win the overall Caxton Reynolds Race title.

They have won a trip for four to Mauritius.

The Springs team came in second, with a weekend stay at the Soweto Hotel, and the Brakpan team was in third place, with a night’s stay and full day spa treatment at the Birchwood Hotel.

The three teams’ final task required them to start in front of the SA Reynolds Travel Centre, early on Saturday morning, when they had to identify 10 different countries on a map, in order to get their next lead.

They then had to go to Hirsch’s, to assemble a Weber braai, after which they had to find the Birchwood leaf, hidden somewhere within the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre.

Their last task of the day was to peel a bag of potatoes at the New Beginnings centre in Boksburg.

The first team to arrive at the Boksburg club, Kate Rheeders and Jenny Seaton-Smith, from Benoni, were crowned the winners of the race.

Their charity, the Rynpark Retirement Village, received a R10 000 voucher from Hirsch’s.

While supporters and sponsors waited for the teams to arrive at their final destination, Matt Stern entertained them, alongside a dance group from Sibikwa.

Various food stalls, selling anything from bunny chow to American corn dogs, were there to warm up the crowd with their delicious food.
