Crime fighter receives recognition
New Beginnings Foundation Skills development facilitator, Hlony Radebe was awarded a Community Mobiliser Award by Crime Line.
The award was handed over during Crime Lines 6th Anniversary Gala Dinner held at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton recently.
Crime Line is an independent, Primedia group initiative in partnership with SAPS. It works through anonymous tip-offs, aimed at getting criminals off the streets.
“I cannot explain how I felt receiving the award, I was overwhelmed and excited,” says Radebe.
Thirteen people were chosen nationwide to receive the Community Mobiliser Award for their contribution to raising awareness in communities.
Radebe believes Crime Line is doing a great job together with the police and hopes the community of Boksburg at large can join in this fight against crime.
“It’s just here and there where one finds an officer of the law not doing their work accordingly, however, in general, I salute our men and woman in blue,” he says.
Radebe says that the award reminded him that the struggle against crime still continues.
New Beginnings has formed a partnership with Crime Line, to educate, raise awareness, and fight crime in the community.
“They have pledged to come whenever we have community outreach programmes and even during classes held at New Beginnings’ Learning Academy to address young people on fighting crime,” he explains.
The accolade was awarded by national police commissioner, Gen Riah Phiyega as well as head of Crime Line, Yusuf Abramjee.
Crime Line receive an average of 3 000 SMS tip-offs a month, from all nine provinces in South Africa.
To become a whistleblower, you can send anonymous tip-offs to Crime Line’s 32211 SMS service, submit it online at www.crimeline.co.za or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
