Fire destroys family home

Emergency Services was recently called to a house in Van Dyk Park, Milkwood Street, which was engulfed in a fire that was suspected to have started inside the home.

According to EMS spokesperson, William Ntladi, on arrival, the house was well alight and the flame knock-down was done.

“The first pump arrived nine minutes after they received the call from Boksburg Central Fire Statio,n but on arrival four rooms were fully engulfed in flames.

“Following the fire investigation report, it appears as if the point of fire origin was at the fire place. Furthermore, two gas cylinders were located in the lounge, removed and cooled off for safety,” says Ntladi.

It took EMS more than two hours to put out the fire and no injuries or fatalities were reported on scene from the occupants of the house.

“The EMS members were able to save the main bedroom and lapa.”

Most of the house was burned down and could not be saved.

Homeowners are again advised to install fire detectors in their homes.

“Fire detectors help detecting fire at its incipient stage, because the alarm will go on and the occupants of the house will then be alerted to the fire.

“The detectors play a prominent role during the night when everyone is asleep and unaware of burning fires,” says Ntladi.

“Lives can be saved and damage to property can be minimised during the early detection of a fire.”
