Lions pick woman as president

The Boksburg Lions Club has chosen Hannelie van der Merwe as the new President of the club.

Van der Merwe became the second female President of the club at an induction ceremony held at The Mannah Executive Guest Lodge, in Pomona, on July 27.

She has been serving as a member of the Lions Club for 24 years.

She first became a member of the Lions Club in the Free State, then moved to Boksburg and joined the Boksburg Lions Club, three years ago.

“As a President, I plan to give the club more exposure through our community services and we need some new members coming into the club,” says van der Merwe.

The Lions have supported the blind and vision-impaired, feed the hungry and carried out a number of community services.
