Refentse to feature at SA chess tournament

Makweya, who’s a resident of Boksburg, also made the Ekurhuleni girls chess team along the way.

St. Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls chess captain Refentse Makweya will star at the South African Closed Chess Tournament at the Kopanong Hotel in Benoni between March 21 and 29.

The closed tournament will act like a trials competition where the standout players will progress to the main tournament scheduled for June. Details of that tournament are still unclear.

En route to the meeting in Kopanong, the matriculant played in seven tournaments last year to earn qualification for a provincial tournament which took place in January.

A successful outing at the provincials sent her to the final trial run at the Kopanong Hotel.
