Crumbling bridge ‘an accident waiting to happen’
The Advertiser is still awaiting for comment from the department responsible for maintenance and ensuring the safety of the bridge in question.
The dilapidated bridge along Commissioner Street near the Oos Rand railway station has brought the safety of motorists driving along the area into question.
After receiving complaints from motorists, the Advertiser visited the area on Thursday morning (March 5) and found that the concrete bridge barriers have crumbling, with some of the concrete beams hanging loose from the bridge – putting motorists’ lives using the road under it at risk.
A local motorist Nosipho Tshambo, who regularly uses the road, also warned that the state of the bridge is posing a danger to motorists.
She described it as an accident waiting to happen.
Tshambo complained that the bridge is old and demands repair work before someone gets hurt or killed by the loose precast concrete beams.
