Speak your mind at Speaker’s Corner
A Speakers' Corner is an area where open-air public speaking, debate and discussion are allowed.
Do you have a desire to pour your heart out about a certain topic? If so, then listen up.
The public is invited to a Speaker’s Corner every Sunday from 2pm till 7pm at Top Shops Saloon from March 1.
This initiative will give the speaker the opportunity to address the audience and ask burning questions about any chosen subject, such as rugby and political religion.
The programme is designed to make it informative and enjoyable at the same time.
According to the organiser, Louis Hattingh, the objectives of the initiative are for people to engage and to improve communications skills.
“Mobile technology is affecting communication in a negative way when it comes to sociability and face-to-face communication.
“Good communication skills are essential in order to deliver and understand information quickly and accurately. Being able to communicate effectively is a vital life skill and should not be overlooked
“Developing communication skills can help many aspects of your life, from your professional career to social gatherings and your family life,” he said.
The organiser explained the idea for the open-air public speaking stems from his experience at Speaker’s Corner in London.
Hattingh is planning on presenting seminars in the future. The first session will be based on the book How to Win Friends and Influence People, written by Dale Carnegie.
The second discussion will be based on relationships, where he wishes to involve guest speakers such as Dr Eve.
Hattingh, who is a professional accountant, freelance talker on talk shows (702) and lecturer highlighted that he wants make people laugh and motivate them.
