Work to repair damaged library ceiling costs over R1.4-million
The library’s adult section roofing structure was ravaged by the heavy downpours last summer, and had been closed for almost a year, while the metro was still looking for a contractor to fix the damaged section of the property.
The Ekurhuleni metro has revealed that December 21 is the projected completion date for the construction work to repair the damaged Boksburg library roofing structure.
The municipality, however, pointed out that due to the recent incessant rain, the repair work is most likely to become a delayed project.
According to the metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, the project is expected to costs taxpayers R1 453 044.
The municipality finally appointed Grandma Services, and construction work started on November 22.
Following the damages to the property, many readers voiced their concerns over the state of council-owned buildings in general, saying poor maintenance was to blame for the crumbling municipal properties in the East Rand.
The municipality, on the other hand, said the process of appointing a contractor to provide regular general maintenance on the library building is under adjudication.
