Boksburg flex its cricket muscles with impressive win against Kempton

The Prince George outfit on November 17 travelled to Kempton Park to take on the traditional powerhouses of the league in a fixture which initially looked like a lost cause before the very first delivery.

The Boksburg Cricket Club could not have bounced back in better fashion from their derby loss against foes CBC Old Boys.

This is after they claimed a big scalp to immediately get back to winning ways and strengthen their chances of making it to the playoffs come the business end of the Eastern Cricket Premier League.

A determined Boksburg were not to be denied, not even by a side as great as the hosts, as they claimed a brilliant six-wicket bonus-point win.

“I’m over the moon,” said a delighted Adam Forbes, captain of Boksburg, who enjoyed his first-ever win against Kempton.

“We bowled the best we have ever bowled and my two strike bowlers, Adrian de Vries and Matthew Hollard, stepped up and set the platform for the rest of the day.

“We did the basics right and it showed in the result. We batted really well on a wicket that started to die in the afternoon.

“I couldn’t be happier and I’m proud of the boys for stepping up and bringing it home.”

Following an early setback which saw Forbes being dismissed after just six runs, the travellers remained composed in their hunt of the 153-run target. They didn’t have to wait long until their striking innings was restored as all of Aktar Rasul (27 runs), Gareth (surname) (20) and Kane Horwell (25) nipped in.

But it was Johan (surname) who took full advantage of his teammates’ bowling earlier in the day, with the striker grabbing the bull by its horns with his unbeaten 53 alongside Jordan Hollard, who finished with an undefeated 24 to see-off the hosts – who earlier recorded a total of 152 in 41.4 overs.

Brandon Harwood finished as the host’s top run scorer with 43 while Boksburg dominated the bowling – with de Vries producing 4/36, including a single maiden. Matthew Hollard inflicted further damage to Kempton with his 2/15; 1.
