Young Owls crowned league champions
The Valke Junior League, unlike other leagues under the union, was played out in the traditional round-robin league format which excluded a play-off stage.
The Boksburg Rugby Club’s u-14 side were recently crowned champions of the Valke Junior League.
This after the junior Owls finished unbeaten in their four-team league, which included Kempton Park Junior Club, Suikerbos Rand Junior Club and the Vereeniging Junior Club.
Coach of the junior Owls, Quintus Werner, who’s been at the helm for five years now, said: “We didn’t lose a game; we put up good scores against strong opposition.
“It’s great to see how these boys have developed and especially this year where they’ve played very good rugby.
“There are definitely some individuals to watch in the future.”
The juniors were also fortunate enough to have four players who starred for the Valke Provincial Club side within their ranks.
The quartet, namely Shawn Simpson, Gordan Smith, Waldo Werner and Henco Potgieter, represented the Valke against the likes of the Blue Bulls, the Lions and Sharks during an inter provincial tournament back in September.
