Local water polo star earns national team call-up
Schutte is an Inter-Provincial Tournament gold medallist. She also won silver at this year’s EU Nations Water Polo Cup.
St Dominic’s water polo star Kiara Schutte has been selected for the South African u-20 water polo team which will be travelling to Russia at the end of the month.
Schutte and her national team teammates will be competing in the Governer’s Cup set to be staged in Chelyabinsk between September 25 and 29.
She went to a selection camp held over four days in Steyn City earlier this year where she earned what will be her third representation of the country.
“I’m truly honoured and proud to be able to represent my country. I was so excited and happy that I got another chance,” she said upon learning of her selection.
“It means everything to me as I have put a lot of hard work and dedication into training and in games.
“The competition we will be facing in Russia is extremely strong but we will give it our everything in every game. I look forward to spending time with my teammates, meeting new competition and experiencing different cultures.”
