Local fighters prepare for boxing extravaganza

Anton van Zyl and Andre Thysse have been hard at work with their boxers at the gym, at Wild Waters, as they prepare for the Boxing Extravaganza at Presleys, on August 1.

Deon Coetzee, Stone van Aswegen and Chaz Peters will all be in action at the BRD Promotions event.

Coetzee will be in the main fight, as he takes on Emmanuel Manengi.

The cruiserweight and van Zyl are confident ahead of the fight.

“He’ll win by knockout,” says van Zyl.

The undefeated van Aswegen is also confident ahead of his welterweight bout against Jules Batale.

The local fighter sees himself as the man who will take over the (Floyd) Mayweather throne.

He feels his preparations have been great. “The couldn’t have gone better, I’m already on the weight,” he says.

What is his goal for the fight?

“A win, but a knockout will be bonus,” says van Aswegen.

Debutant Chaz Peters will face Mark Nondaba in a welterweight bout.

“I’ve had excellent sparring and I’m feeling confident,” says Peters.

He says that he will leave Presleys with his “hand held up” after his fight.

He is eager to take his boxing “as far as possible”.

“I want to challenge for the SA title by next year,” he says.

Van Zyl is happy with his charges and their backers.

The tournament at Presleys will see young fighters squaring up to help their careers progress.

Alfonzo Tissen will face Prince Dlomo in a junior middleweight contest.

Light heavyweights Maxwell Amposah and Jackson Mashaba will slug it out in the squared circle.

There will be a 62.5kg catchweight bout between Shannon Strydom and Lucky Movhango.

Jarred Silverman will face Emmanuel Makoro in a welterweight fight.
