Freedom Park residents happy to see light after many years

The electrification project began at the end of March and about half of the households in the area have since been supplied with electricity.

Residents of Freedom Park in Villa Liza, who have been without electricity for the past 19 years, now see the light following an electrification of the area.

David Kekana, one of the residents who now have electricity, shared his excitement with the Advertiser, saying life has drastically changed for him.

“For the past 20 years, we couldn’t watch television or listen to radio but now we can. We are so grateful to the municipality that at long last they have heard our cries and have responded,” Kekana said.

Another resident, Sipho Ngobese, said the electricity has improved their standard of living.

According to community leader Themba Nkani, the metro has also erected high mast lighting, which will assist in improving safety in the community.

Other informal settlements in Boksburg which have not yet been supplied with electricity include Jerusalem informal settlement, Angelo informal settlement, Ramaphosa road reserve, Marikana in Ramaphosa, Delmore and Kalamazoo informal settlement.
