Another win for a Truter brother in the boxing ring
Darrin Rossouw defeated Ramsy Hlongwani in the battle of the pro debutants. Rossouw stopped Hlongwane in the third minute of round four.
Just a few weeks after his brother Tristan won his first title in the African Boxing Union (ABU) Youth welterweight title when he knocked out Xolisa Nonkonyane in Eastern Cape, Cayden Truter brought the Truter name back to the fore in the boxing fraternity at Emperors Palace on August 23.
In what was the opening bout of the night, Cayden claimed a convincing unanimous decision win with the judges, scoring it 39-37 and 40-36 twice.
In what will go down as one of his more impressive wins in his career, International Boxing Organisation (IBO) All-Africa super middleweight champion Rowan Campbell successfully defended his crown against the highly rated Patrick Mukala from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Giving testament to just how closely matched these two pugilists are, both started off cautiously in the first round with the champion showing mettle thereafter to shed rounds two and three.
Mukala closed the gap in the fourth with sweet uppercuts, but did little to offset the well-conditioned champion.
The champion’s superior fitness levels would come to the fore in the seventh as he proved too much for the tired Mukala with a combination of blows, giving the man in the middle, Tony Nyangiwe, little choice but to intervene a little under the third minute of the round.
Elsewhere, Ricardo Malajika proved too good for Layten Gloss with a fifth-round technical knockout (TKO) to win the vacant Gauteng junior bantamweight belt.
It improved Malajika’s record to 6-0; 1, while the gloss was taken off Gloss’s record as it dropped to 5-4; 3.
Other results:
Rourke Knapp defeated Kazakhstan national Aleksandr Zhuravskiy via a unanimous decision in their 10-round bout to retain his unbeaten record.
