Quins-Bobbies amass 50 plus points against ER United
The local side were still without their leader in Jonathan Botha and prolific kicker Cameron Rooi, who were still nursing injuries, although the two are understood to be nearing 100 per cent fitness. They are expected back in the starting line-up this weekend against Springs.
East Rand United gave a good account of themselves despite going down 54-39 to Quins-Bobbies Rugby Club (QBR) in their Volcano Super Cup match in Pretoria on June 8.
Despite coming in the encounter at the back of a hiding from Tuks, United showed great turnover and scored five tries to earn themselves a consolation bonus point.
With incumbent manager Alvandre Maart unavailable in the dugout for this one, assistant coach Jean Diemieniet took over the coaching responsibility and despite the resolve his side displayed, the trainer said the side left a lot to be desired.
“I’m not at all happy with the players’ performance, there was no urgency from them and they did not stick to the game plan. When we started playing, we were really good: we need to really work hard in the following weeks if we want to end the season on a high.
“The good thing is that a couple of injured players return after a two-week rest period, very positive that we will bounce back better and stronger.
“Come June 22, we will field our strongest team.”
Saki Klaas, Waylon Thompson, Jacky Jonkers, Leon Potgieter and Cameron Lentoor scored the tries for United. The latter converted twice and knocked over two penalties. Clayton Gindan also added two conversions.
