St Francis hosts symposium on child protection awareness

Statistics were shared on the number of children abandoned, neglected, orphaned, abused, even killed, as a results of socioeconomic and psycho-social ills that communities experience on daily basis.

The St Francis Care Centre hosted a symposium for child protection awareness on June 5.

The theme was “Let us work together to protect all the children, to move South Africa forward”.

Speakers were drawn from the following organisations: Boksburg Home Affairs, Children’s Court, SAPS Child Protection, Boksburg Child Welfare, Department of Social Development, Bertha Gxowa Hospital, Far East Rand Hospital and Hope and Homes.

The participants came to take a stand, and to engage on service provision and how to overcome challenges, and find ways in which organisations can work together to help children.

St Francis Care Centre residential social worker Thuli Mbatha said they plan to host such events on a regular basis to improve the quality of services offered to the children and families.
