TUKS dish out a rugby lesson to ER United
United’s Ruan Venter scored his side’s only try converted by Cameron Lentoor.
The University of Pretoria (TUKS) dished out a rugby lesson at Dr EG Jansen when they barraged East Rand United on their way to a comfortable 69-7 win in their Volcano Super Cup clash on June 1.
Courageous, resilient and hopeful are some of the words one can use to describe United but even they were demoralised by the accurate, ruthless and skilful Pretoria unit.
While the encounter was more like a captain’s run for TUKS, who were the home side with Loftus being prioritised for other events, United was subjected to chasing shadows and to making a ridiculous amount of tackles.
Like any other game where the gap between the underdog and the favourite is immense, United did have their chances to trouble the well marshalled TUKS defense but the Pretoria XV was as brilliant on defense as they were devastating on attack – particularly from turnover ball.
TUKS’ transition from defense to attack was admirable with their support play, offloading timing and accuracy, and their ability to spot and take advantage of gaps yielding some brilliant scores.
