Huxtable puts in a monstrous performance at Arnold Classic
Next in line for Huxtable are the IFBB SA Championships and the IFBB Worlds in Dubai. Dates are yet to be confirmed.
Parkdene’s Arnold Classic bodybuilder Craig Huxtable probably produced his best stage performance until this juncture of his career when he finished seventh out of a quality line-up of 12 at the Arnold Classic Africa event in Sandton, Johannesburg, a fortnight ago.
Huxtable, who stands just under 1.8m in height, weighed in at 89.9kg – his category’s limit, the Men’s Bodybuilding, which was one of the most competitive over the weekend of the bodybuilding and fitness jamboree, was listed at 90kg.
There was no room for escaping the judges’ ever critical eye, a factor which forced all competitors to ensure they came in their tip-top condition.
Some of the things the officials looked for included overall muscle depth, calves had to be ‘full and long’ and balance with the thighs; proportion, definition, symmetry, wide shoulders and narrow hips, and balance – just to list a few.
It had been a long road to the event for the 35-year-old who had been intensely preparing for it.
“I started preparing for the event in 2017 after missing out on competing at the World Championships. I used 2018 as an opportunity to better myself physically and educationally in order to step-up to the first big national competition (Millenium Gold plate 2019), where I placed third, qualifying me for the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Arnold Classic 2019,” he explained.
“It was a monstrous achievement at Arnold Classic Africa 2019, with just a few months of fine tuning, tweaking training with upcoming IFBB pro coach Curtis Howells.
“I stepped on the biggest stage in Africa with an insane world-class line-up. I stood just as big, if not bigger, than most of my competition, so this is but a starting point – much more to come.”
Searched for his content level, he responded: “I’m not disappointed nor dissatisfied, I stood the hardest and showed my best against the biggest line-up of the day. I can say I’m in the top 10 athletes in the world among the world’s best elite athletes, not many people can say that. And the judges agree and I know I will be back with a package worthy of a Pro Card status.”
