Oosthuizen falls to Jacobs at EFC 79
Oosthuizen, a Boksburg Pitbull Dojo student, made a flying start to his EFC career with a debut 34-second win, followed by two more wins.
Faeez ‘Troublemaker’ Jacobs brought the trouble to EFC 79 when he officially ended Billy Oosthuizen’s honeymoon phase with an impressive KO victory just outside four minutes in round one of their featherweight bout at Carnival City on May 4.
Oothuizen’s once healthy-looking record has suffered yet another stain at the hands of Jacobs, who ensured Oosthuizen drops to 3-2-0.
In the night’s main event, there was disappointment and then sheer brilliance.
The fight between EFC superstar and featherweight champion Igeu Kabesa and Croatian challenger Karlo Caput was rather anti-climatic.
Caput arrived undefeated at 8-0 and entered the fight at the back of an impressive five-second knockout in his previous fight, thus was tipped to have a good chance to upset the talented and dominant Kabesa, who entered the fight at 11-1.
But Congo’s Kabesa quickly reminded everyone why he’s the champion and previously defended his title five times.
The challenger made a quick start and pressured the ever-confident champion, who would very soon prove his cage savvyness.
The early pressure Caput exerted was the only chance of offence he would be allowed as just over the minute mark, Kabesa responded like the true champion he is with an overhand right which floored Caput.
The first round of the Grand Prix to determine the organisation’s new welterweight champion kicked off with Zimbabwe’s Themba Gorimbo, returning after almost two years’ absence, to face Brazil’s Jose da Rocha.
The South African showed little to no cage rustiness as he took the win with a decision win after a controlled ground performance.
The road to determining the new champion continues at Carnival City at EFC 80 on June 29.
