Rotary helps to furnish Urban Ruins’ new kitchen

Proud parents and their children came through to witness the opening of the kitchen.

Urban Ruins held their official grand opening for their new kitchen courtesy of Boksburg Lake Rotary Club for the Urban Ruins pre-school.

About R50 000 was spent to build and furnish the kitchen.

The tiles were donated by Vaughn Dyssel from Tile Africa.

Boksburg Lake Rotary president Michele Choromanski said: “Urban Ruins is one of our projects that we have supported throughout the years. The reason why we decided to build them a kitchen was that we saw a need. Before they used to cook under the lapa.”

Choromanski highlighted that the funds came from the Rotary International district grant.

“The Benoni Rotary Club supported us as well by donating legos. The Rotary Anns also donated food and clothes for the NPO and pre-school,” Choromanski said.

Linda Strokes from the Boksburg Lake Rotary Anns said: “We thank Jaques du Toit, who did the plumbing, Gary Kleyhans, who did the electrics, and George Prins.”

Lucky Khumalo, who is a chef at the pre-school, said with the new kitchen his work will be much easier than working under the lapa.
