Alberton prove too strong for CBC

In what was a rather off day on the batting front from Old Boys, they could only manage a modest collective of 147/ 10 in 46.1 overs.

A quick response of 150 runs in 32 overs earned home side Alberton a convincing win against CBC Old Boys in their Eastern Cricket top six clash at the Lindeque Oval on February 24.

The home XI was led by their top-order hitters, AD Gagiano and Matthew Arnold in particular, with the two combining for 99.

The latter stood a good chance to enter the half-ton territory, but the goal was defeated with the game already in the bag.

This forced him to settle for an unbeaten 44, alongside Khayalethu Nyamathe, who finished with an unbeaten eight runs to hand their side a deserved bonus point win.

Gagiano scored 45 runs.

Alberton’s only lost wickets were taken by Old Boys trio Matthew Varner, who led his side in the bowling, captain Casey Arnold and Mark Pearse.

CBC’s total proved far from enough despite the travellers emptying their batting order.

Gagiano also starred in the bowling front, taking 4/31 in his allotted bowling overs of 10.

Despite producing a match-winning performance, Gagiano was not the only culprit to dash any of Old Boys’ hopes.

Teammates JC Maritz and Tyrone White also did their part to destabilise the visitors early on, taking 2/23 and 2/33 respectively. – @SabeloBoksburg
