Naicker emerges as speed king

The next round of the BMW Club Racing Series is at the Midvaal circuit near Meyerton on March 23.

The Gauteng Bridgestone BMW Owners’ Club got underway for the year in February with its first round, which saw a large contingent of drivers attending to the season’s first day at the Red Star Raceway in Delmas..

Starting proceedings were two races for the 2019 Bridgestone BMW Club Racing contenders, with 26 drivers taking to the tarmac where Kashen Naicker would dish up a driving lesson.

The Sunward Park racer, only 19 and racing against fully grown men, set the morning’s fastest official qualifying lap time, taking pole position for the first race.

He went on to show that his blitzkrieg qualifying start in his BMW E90 335i had little to do with luck when he showed the grid a clean pair of tar tracks from beginning to end.

He set the day’s fastest race lap at a little over two minutes while he was at it.

Adrian Dalton (BMW E46 M3 CSL) and Paulo Loureiro (BMW F30 335i) completed the podium positions, respectively.

Race 2 saw one of Naicker’s closest rivals, Dalton, exit the circuit with fading brakes during the first lap, leaving the Boksburg speedster to take another easy win, despite being forced to slow down during the final lap because he was running out of fuel.

Andreas Meier (BMW E36 M3) took the runner-up spot ahead of Jan Evertsteyn (Class B BMW E46 M3).

The overall fastest lap of the day belonged to the Boksburg driver in his flying Beema, also making him the fastest turbocharged car.

He said: “I think it was good overall, but there’s always room for improvement.”
