Kiara excited to compete in the Czech Republic for water polo cup
It’s been truly a journey for Schutte, who’s been part of the sport for little over five years now.
It’s her second selection on an international level, but St Dominic’s water polo player Kiara Schutte’s (16) excitement remains palpable.
The utility player has been chosen to participate at the European Union (EU) Nations Junior Women’s Water Polo Cup in Brno, Czech Republic, scheduled to run between March 20 and 25.
Schutte, like her fellow learner and goalkeeper at St Dom’s Oluchi McMurray, was eyed by scouts during provincials in Durban last December.
“I’m extremely grateful to be provided with this opportunity to be playing among such tough competition, I feel so proud and privileged – and I’m really excited.
“I’m looking forward to being with my friends because I’ve now made friends with those girls. I’m excited for the games and the competition, and just being able to go through that with them.”
“My dad used to play water polo when he was younger and he was like, ‘Why don’t you give it a go?’ So I was like, ‘Ok’.
“Ever since Grade Four I’ve been playing and I’ve just enjoyed it so much. It’s honestly been such a good experience, I love it.”
EU is a group of 28 nations in Europe, including sporting powerhouses England, Spain, Italy and France.
