
On Sunday, February 3, the EMPD High Speed Unit conducted a special operation on N12 eastbound between Rondebult bridge and Atlas turnoff.
The operation which started at 5am and ended at 11am, yielded six arrests on this 120km/h stretch of the freeway.
This is according to Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson.
He said the highest speed recorded was by a motorist (28) in a white BMW 3 Series who claimed that he was rushing to Daveyton.
He was arrested at 6.30am when clocked at 196km/h.
“The six arrested speedsters were all men, save one who is female, with ages ranging between 22 and 48. They cited reasons of either being late for work or rushing home.
“They were arrested after clocking speeds of between 171 and 161km/h.”
They are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
