Tommy Gun lock and loaded for Mchunu fight

Details about the future of the winner of the fight are still sketchy but names such as undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world Oleksandr Usyk have been surfacing.

“I’ve been growing impatient with the fight.”

These were the words uttered by African Boxing Union (ABU) cruiserweight champion Tommy Oosthuizen in the midst of a sparring session at the Hammer Gym in Boksburg.

Oosthuizen will face challenger Thabiso Mchunu in the defence of his title he won in early September against Mchunu at Emperors Palace.

The two top southpaw cruiserweights will renew their rival in a battle for cruiserweight supremacy at the same venue on December 8.

Quizzed on his impressions as the clash nears, he said: “I’m not going to be arrogant, I’m going to stay humble. God has really blessed me with my training and I never prepare to lose.”

On whether he’s nervous or not for the main event of Golden Gloves’ Repeat or Revenge, Oosthuizen responded: “Look, people are behind me and the country’s behind me, so that helps a lot. No, I’m not nervous. I’m just looking forward to the fight.

“I’ve been training for a long time for it, I’ve been living with Harold [Volbrecht] for about a month now and he has not been easy to me with the training.”

Oosthuizen, however, is likely to be back in the boxing ring in February, whatever happens.
