Car dealerships are booming in Boksburg, focusing on client service and helping locals to find the perfect wheels. Unfortunately, they are also easy targets for criminals.
Boksburg North SAPS communications officer Captain Juanita Coetzer said car dealerships are dealing with more and more cases of hijacking and theft.
On October 4 at 10.30am, three men entered a car dealership on 13th Avenue, Ravenswood, asking to test drive a BMW.
“Luckily the salesperson only allowed one man to test drive the car, but he was still thrown out and the suspect took off with the vehicle. There are several cases like this in our area.”
Coetzer wants to warn dealerships and salesmen to be vigilant and to not allow just anyone to test drive a car.
Tips
- There should be two salespeople in the car and one client test driving.
- Salespeople should make sure to get a copy of the person’s ID before they test drive a vehicle.
- Take a photo of the person who wants to test drive the vehicle.
- Make sure there are cameras in the dealership.
