‘9mm’ ready to fire back at EFC 74

An interesting match-up between Conrad ‘Cage Wise’ Seabi and Max ‘The German Tank’ Merten also forms part of the main card bouts.

Van Dyk Park welterweight fighter Robert ‘9mm’ Swanepoel is looking to correct all the wrongs from his debut professional fight when he faces Elvis ‘Animal’ Ngwalangwala at EFC 74 at Carnival City on October 6.

Swanepoel made a disappointing EFC debut in Durban in May when he failed to recover from an accidental low blow early in the fight against Mzwandile Hlongwa.

Four months on, and onto his second of his six-fight contract with the mixed martial arts promotion company, ‘9mm’ says he’s ready to fire back and kick-start his professional endeavour.

“I’ve been more focused and dedicated than ever,” he said.

“I always say that I don’t lose, I learn. So I definitely had to up my game in preparation for this fight.

“I have height and huge reach advantage over him, plus I just don’t think Elvis has that killer instinct that I do.

“We fought at the same amateur promotion Extreme Warriors Championship (EWC); he was the welterweight champ but I’m very positive. I’ve been putting in the hours and believe my hard work will pay off.”

Both fighters share an identical record of 0-1 and though Swanepoel possesses the size advantage, Ngwalangwala is a decade his junior – two factors that make this one that much more interesting.

Elsewhere, Scotland’s Calum ‘Bundy’ Murrie (4-1-0) has his work cut out as he challenges EFC star and featherweight champion Igeu ‘Smiley’ Kabesa (10-1-0) in the main event.
