Environmental specialist assures no degradation to the wetland has occurred at Libradene development
Construction is proceeding in compliance with the authorisation
Construction is progressing at the controversial new petrol station site on Rondebult Road in Libradene.
While the property is privately-owned, concerns were initially raised about the negative effect that the construction of a petrol station in the area is likely to have on the nearby wetland and its ecosystems, resulting in the project being halted for years.
Work on the project had, however, resumed after a long court battle between the then developer Petro-Props and environmental, sustainability and geopolitical consultant Nicole Barlow.
The Advertiser, however, understands that an environmentalist, Antoinette Bootsma, from Limosella Environmental Consulting, was appointed by the new developers to ensure the protection of the nearby wetland.
According to the specialist, from an environmental side, construction is proceeding in compliance with the authorisation and no issues have occurred so far.
“No degradation to the wetland or pollution of the water has occurred, as determined in independent tests,” said Bootsma.
The property owners and project team were, however, not immediately available to provide detailed information on the progress of the construction works.
Bootsma, however, promised that she would see to it that all the relevant people provide the requested information on the project.
