Passenger dies in Commissioner Street collision

Eighteen people were also hospitalised

A woman in her 30s passed away this morning (May 7) in a car crash on Commissioner Street.

Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said at 6.20am a minibus taxi with 14 occupants crashed into a Mitsubishi light delivery vehicle.

“It is not clear at this stage what actually caused the accident but preliminary investigations reveal that the Mitsubishi with five occupants disobeyed a stop sign.

“This resulted in a collision where the taxi, travelling towards the south, lost control and overturned.

“All occupants of the Mitsubishi were transported to the Tambo Memorial Hospital for medical treatment, due to slight injuries.

“A passenger in the taxi died while the other occupants were hospitalised.

“The Accident Reconstruction Unit was on site and a case of culpable homicide has been registered at the Boksburg SAPS for further investigations.”
