What happened to Boksburg’s EFC stars?
Stars who had religiously featured at the MMA organisation over the years were interviewed about their careers.
With the healthy representation of Boksburg at EFC Africa wearing thin in recent months, the Advertiser took matters into its own hands to find out the reason behind the increasing absences.
- Ruan Potts
The former EFC heavyweight champion is on his road to recovery following knee meniscus and patellar debridement repair surgery.
When the Advertiser asked Potts about his MMA career, he said: “I went for a knee operation in November last year and had a long battle with rehab and recovery until last month.
“I have been back to the grindstone and back to training for the past three weeks and I’m back in the hexagon at EFC 71 in June at Carnival City.
“My opponent is yet to be announced, but a fight is definitely on the cards.
“I have won all of my last three bouts and I am hopefully one bout away from the long-awaited EFC world heavyweight championship title match, but one step at a time. My eyes are set on one goal at a time, and that is my next bout at EFC 71.”
The man known as ‘Fangzz’ in MMA circles added that the damage to his knee was brought on by years of wear and tear from rugby and various other sports, including training.

- Barend Nienaber
Asked for an update on his career inside the hexagon, Nienaber confirmed that his return can be expected later this year.
“I just took some time off to concentrate on work,” said the man fondly known as ‘BB Gun’.
“I will be back in the cage by September. I’m still training to stay in shape.”

- JP Kruger
The middleweight fighter, much like Fangzz, is also recovering from a serious knee injury suffered from a wrestling accident.
The man nicknamed ‘Tinkerbell’ underwent surgery five months ago and is looking to return to action in his birthday month of October.
He said: “My promoters and I are impatiently waiting for the injury to heal. I’m currently busy with rehab work and this is why I’ve been out of the hexagon.
“I can now do normal movements, but nothing explosive.” – @SabeloBoksburg
