Oosthuizen crowned new champion at EWC 8
He had broken his own record he set at EWC 6 when he blitzed to a 36-second victory against Pakamiso Dumiso.
Boksburg Pitbull Dojo MMA star Billy Oosthuizen was crowned the new bantamweight champion at Extreme Warriors Championship 8 (EWC) following a third straight round one win at Club LaBoom in Boksburg on March 31.
Oosthuizen, who’s been riding on a crest of a wave into his young MMA career, also became the organisation’s first-ever bantamweight champion in the process as he defeated Aldo Booysen via verbal submission.
The win cemented his dominance in the division.
He came into the championship fight at the back of a record-breaking victory when he registered the quickest fight in the organisation’s history that saw him TKO Siyabonga Zulu in 29 seconds at EWC 7.
Meanwhile, flyweight champion Julio Plaatjies was made to work to retain his gold when Asiashu Tshitamba took him all the way.
The champ claimed the win via majority decision.
The third title bout of the night saw Benjamin Mangala being crowned the new interim lightweight champion when he defeated Danie Swart via TKO one minute and 47 seconds into the second round.
EWC president Patrick Luindula commented: “I’m extremely pleased with how proceedings went on the night, I’d like to give a special thanks to Chyrene Strauss, an MMA South Africa official who officiated all 12 fights.”
