Randfontein sink Owls while Impala crush East Rand United

It was not a good weekend for local rugby sides in preparation for the league

The Boksburg Rugby Club fell to a 38-22 defeat to Randfontein, in Randfontein, on March 17 in their penultimate friendly encounter before the kick-off of the Peregrine League on April 7.

It wasn’t the ideal preparation for the Owls, who were expecting American side Schuylkill River at Prince George Park for their ultimate pre-season match.

The hosts completed a whitewash as Boksburg’s reserves and u-21s also went down 41-23 and 36-24 respectively.

Lock Willem Botes, flyer Reggie Roux, mercurial midfielder David Woolls and captain Danie Schultz crossed the try line for the visitors.

Flyhalf Forest Roos added the extras from the boot.

  • Meanwhile, on the other side of the country in Rustenburg, Boksburg neighbours East Rand United continued to be schooled in their journey in the Carlton League.

United just had six points to show for their efforts courtesy of a pair of penalties from stand-off Cameron Rooi.

Impala, on the other hand, crossed the try line almost at will as they ran away as 44-6 victors. – @SabeloBoksburg
