United ease past struggling CBC

United reached the 84-run asked mark in 13.2 overs

CBC Old Boys’ struggles continued when they suffered an embarrassing seven-wicket away loss to United Cricket Club in their Eastern Premier League fixture on Sunday, March 4.

The Boksburg side was sent to bat in the match’s opening innings before a catastrophic batting display saw them bowled out for 83 before the halfway mark of their allotted 50 overs – leaving the home side licking their lips.

United quartet, including Rynhardt de Lange, Ruaan Janse van Rensburg and Peter Truwick, lead by the brilliant Eden Links on the afternoon, played a big part in CBC’s collapse.

Links proved to be a thorn in the visitors’ batting order, producing an outstanding 4/16 in just 4.3 overs. De Lange, Janse van Rensburg and Truwick all took a brace of wickets a piece.

They finished with 2/26; 1, 2/24 and 2/13; 1 respectively.

United wasted little time in overhauling the scant target with André Johnson getting his side off the mark with 28 runs.

Xolane Shongwe (15) and Brandon Grutter added the extras before captain Justin Gamble’s unbeaten six and Michael Weldon’s undefeated 26 saw the hosts comfortably secure their bonus point victory.
