Boksburg’s Eastern Cricket Premier League representatives CBC Old Boys and their neighbours, the Boksburg Cricket Club, have been bad travellers this campaign.
So it proved again when CBC captain Casey Arnold and his troops travelled to take on United on January 28.
Having been sent to bat first, the visitors were put under early pressure when the top order quartet of Mark Pearse (6), Sherwyn Pillay (34), Dylan Bennie (6) and Arnold were removed without putting the required pressure on the board.
It triggered a collapse of the remaining order as Justin Gamble and co kept up the pressure.
Old Boys were limited to 146 all-out in 40 overs and the home XI responded with 147/4 inside 37 overs.
The home side’s Eden Links produced a match-winning performance when he first took 3/32 including a hat-trick of maidens before finishing unbeaten on 43 alongside Ernest Mbalane (unbeaten 13).
Other hat-trick wicket-takers were Mbalane’s teammate Ruaan Janse van Rensburg (3/29; 2) and Old Boys’ Gift Nzimande (3/51; 1).
Boksburg also disappointed at Alberton on the same day, albeit on a wet wicket.
Both local teams had come in week 13 of action at the back of convincing bonus-point wins at home respectively.
