CBC maintain dominance over their Springs namesakes
CBC and Boksburg are both in good form as the local derby looms
CBC Old Boys cruised to a seven-wicket bonus point win in their Eastern Cricket Premier League match against Springs Old Boys at CBC on January 21.
The win only heightened the anticipation of the Boksburg derby which will be hosted by CBC captain Casey Arnold and company after Boksburg claimed a bonus point win themselves in an obliterating 115-run win over Tembisa on the same day.
CBC welcomes the Boksburg Cricket Club this Sunday (February 4).
Springs were sent to bat first to open the afternoon’s innings and struggled to get any rhythm or a solid partnership to put pressure on the board.
As a result, the visitors could only manage a trivial 140 with the host bowling out their visitors in 42 overs.
The home side bowled well, fielded well and equally shared the bowling responsibilities which saw Carlton Johnson and Craig Parker claiming six of Springs’ strikers with numbers of 3/28 and 3/31; 2 respectively.
Jadan Liebenberg, Tyron Cameron, Willie Bernhardt and Christo van der Merwe also claimed a wicket apiece.
Come the second innings and the Boksburg outfit’s response was rapid before sealing the win inside 30 overs.
Opener Mark Pearce posted 30, and his skipper Arnold (7) and wicket-keeper Dylan Bennie (29) added a combined 36 before Jaco Theunis (unbeaten 4) and Sherwin Pillay (undefeated 64) closed the deal.
The home side finished the afternoon with 143/3. – @SabeloBoksburg
