Man shot dead, vehicle hijacked outside Lilianton tavern

A man was shot dead and another man had his car hijacked outside Good-Luck Tavern in Main Reef Road, Lilianton, opposite Angelo Informal Settlement on December 15.

According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Captain Juanita Coetzer, the complainant told the police that at about 11.15pm he parked his car next to another vehicle, a white Nissan Navara, in front of the tavern.

Three armed males approached the Navara and started shooting at the man sitting in the vehicle.

A group of people were seen exiting the tavern and approaching the scene, apparently to check what was happening, but they immediately ran back into the tavern after they were alarmed to see men with guns shooting at the driver of the Navara.

The man who was being shot at managed to jump out of his vehicle and tried to escape his attackers.

However, one of the gunmen gave chase and fired multiple shots at him, causing him to collapse a few metres away. He died at the scene.

The criminals then hijacked the complainant’s vehicle parked next to the Navara and drove off. They did not hurt the driver and no shots were fired at him.

No arrests have been made but investigations continue.

This is not the first fatal incident to have happened in the area. A man was fatally shot and another man had his vehicle hijacked by armed gangs outside the tavern a few weeks ago. The suspects are still at large and police appeal to anyone with information to come forward. -@MthuphaFanie
