Elderly at Cosmos Old-Age Home treated to a special day
Thanks to the efforts of a local hair and beauty salon, 225 elderly at Cosmos Old-Age Home had a special treat on December 11.
The owner and staff of Essential Hair and Beauty, which is situated in the Tudor Rose Centre in North Rand Road, put on a fantastic Christmas lunch and entertainment – complete with Santa and elves – for the aged at the home in Van Dyk Park.
This special project was headed by salon owner Alida Engelbrecht and her daughter Al-retha Engelbrecht.
Karin Geldenhuys, the former owner of Super CD in East Rand Mall and someone who is no stranger to the residents of Cosmos, was also involved in making the day a success and said she was ecstatic to be part of this wonderful event for the elderly.

Executive director of Cosmos, Susan Cilliers, was overwhelmed by the generous gesture.
“Wow. Our residents are being so spoilt. It is simply amazing. We are so grateful to everyone involved,” she said.
The residents enjoyed a full meal and dessert, table gifts and live entertainment.
Al-retha said all the staff from the salon were involved and many customers also supported the event by buying raffle tickets they sold in the salon.
She thanked everyone who assisted for their support.
