Children encouraged to be warriors by speaking out against crime
There's a new type of warrior emerging in Boksburg ... Bee A Warrior!
To promote this novel concept, which is aimed at encouraging children to speak out against crime and abuse, the originators of Bee A Warrior, the Boksburg North SAPS and Boksburg North Sector 3 CPF, hosted a community day at Laerskool Witfield on November 4.
The crowd was entertained with displays by the K9 unit and emergency services, could take part in good old “boeresport”, make a blood donation at the SANBS tent, relax in the shade to live entertainment or watch their kiddies enjoy the foam slide and jumping castle.
Underdogs SA, a rescue and rehabilitation centre for pit bull terriers, also attended the event and interacted with visitors to spread knowledge about the breed and awareness of dog fighting and other abuses against animals.
Coenie Nolte, chairperson of Boksburg North Sector 3 CPF, explained that Bee A Warrior is about being aware.
“We want children to learn to trust the police and, in so doing, speak out against crimes happening to them or around them, including rape, women and child abuse and animal abuse. Bullying is, of course, also a big focus of our campaign.”
He said any child can be a “warrior” by reporting crime and supplying the police with information they can act on and investigate.
“Even within their own homes, they can be a ‘warrior’ by identifying wrongdoing and reporting it to the police,” Nolte said.
The project aims to host a bullying awareness day in the near future.
While it was an extremely hot day, visitors thoroughly enjoyed browsing the stalls and interacting with the CPF and SAPS members, including the SAPS mounted unit.
