According to a resident who’s been living in one of the houses for 22 years, her house has only been painted once.
The complainant, who wants to stay anonymous, said her solar panel burst three months ago and still hasn’t been repaired.
She’s had no hot water since and is also aware of other properties experiencing the same problem.
She also mentioned that her ceiling has been leaking for a while now.
The complainant said it’s unfair that residents have to repair their own leaking taps, doors and windows on a property which belongs to the metro.
The Advertiser visited a property on November 6 which has two blocked drains, one of which has overflowed and flooded the property.
“The metro officials were on site and attempted to unblock the one drain. However, both drains are still blocked,” said the complainant.
“What’s disappointing is that they didn’t leave the elderly resident’s belongings as they found them. They moved them and then left.”
According to the complainant, a few days after the Advertiser’s visit, the officials were back on site to suck up the excess water.
“About an hour later the garden was again flooded with water. One can get sick from this stench.”
The complainant informed the Advertiser that the problem was finally sorted out on November 7.
Apparently, the elderly resident of the same property has to deal with paint that is peeling from the ceiling and is falling into her food.
“I am disappointed in the metro; they are absolutely pathetic.”
According to the DA ward councillor, Marius de Vos, the officials don’t take municipal property seriously.
“I’m not aware of any records of maintenance and upgrades for the houses in Sky Street,” said de Vos.
“The houses are broken down and nothing is being replaced or repaired.”
De Vos mentioned that some of the houses are not managed properly and are subleased.
“Vandalism and drug dealing are other big problems in Sky Street.”
