CBC’s top order topples Tembisa

CBC Old Boys’ Premier XI pulled off a comfortable seven-wicket bonus-point victory over Tembisa in their Eastern Cricket second-round clash at CBC on October 29.

This is after Dylan Bennie’s wonderful knock of 53 not out led the chase of the visitors’ frail total of 145/ 9 in their allotted 50 overs – ensuring that Casey Arnold’s troops collected maximum points for two weeks running after doing so in their league opener away to KwaThema.

Justin Smallcombe’s dismissal for zero was a mere distraction for the Boksburg outfit with Mark Pearse’s additional 22, Arnold’s 37 and Matthew Wright’s unbeaten 12 securing victory after just 28 overs.

Quizzed on his side’s clinical showing, Old Boys captain Arnold, said: “I’m proud. The boys’ commitment is getting better and we are starting to gel. It’s a great start to the season and I’m very happy. But, we have three very difficult games coming up – I hope the boys can keep improving.”

All of Old Boys’ fallen wickets were taken by Thokozani Sangweni, who finished with 3/54 in 9.5 overs.

CBC duo Arnold and Gift Nzimande finished as their side’s joint top wicket takers with a hat-trick apiece.

After being asked to bat first in the first innings, the visitors made a rocky start before Thulani Tembela instilled renewed hope with his total of 57.

His dismissal, however, marked the collapse of the Tembisa batting order as the visitors stumbled to their total.

The hosts ended on a 150/3 for their win.

Next for the local side is Benoni Northerns away this Sunday (November 4) before another away trip to Actonville Spurs on November 19. – @SabeloBoksburg
