Alleged ‘big fish’ in Reiger Park drug trade arrested

The Reiger Park police arrested three family members believed to be leading drug dealers in the area on October 11.

According to the SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, police officers executed a search warrant at the family’s home in Martin du Preez Street and found 71 packets of methcathinone, also known as ‘Cat’.

The illicit drugs and R9 400 in cash were seized.

“The husband (33), wife (28) and son (19) were arrested and charged with possession of drugs and dealing in drugs.

“This family is known in the community as the ‘big fish’ in the drug trade in Reiger Park.

“There have been a number of complaints from the public about the family unashamedly selling drugs to community members, including schoolchildren,” said Phathela.

“We are now going after the big guys and I want to warn the others that we know who they are and that their days are numbered,” added Phathela.

The police thank the community for information regarding drug trading and encourage residents to continue providing the police with tip-offs. -@FanieFLK
