Robinson told the Advertiser that he and business people in the area, which is home to large industries, reported the problem to the municipality on numerous occasions but got no joy.
He said in the face of water shortages in the province, thousands of litres of clean drinking water are being wasted and it seems as if no one cares about the wastage.
It is believed that the source of the leak is a damaged water meter located on the side of the road. Robinson said the water appears to be seeping from the meter.
Robinson has also discovered that there are three other water leaks in the same street. He said municipal workers were sent to one of the other three leaks a while ago but failed to find the source.
“They dug a hole looking for the leak and could not find it and then concluded that it was just ground water. A dissatisfied businessman from a nearby company, however, got the water tested and it was found that the water contains chlorine; this serves as a proof that it is the city’s water,” said Robinson.
The metro has not yet commented on the issue.
