Italy beckons for Sunward Park IBFF SA champion

Sunward Park fitness athlete Penny Wilbers (50) was recently crowned the nation’s fitness queen in her over-40 division at the IFBB SA Championships, in Kempton Park.

“I’m excited, I’m thrilled and I’m proud of myself for achieving such an achievement, especially at my age,” she enthused.

“This is my biggest achievement and it’s going to be my first time competing overseas, I’m excited,” she said of the trip to the home of the Vatican.

Wilbers earned an invitation to the SA Champs after impressing during qualifying rounds which preceded the national competition.

Asked what her preparations for the competition included, she continued: “Diet, diet, diet and dedication. You can’t go out, can’t socialise, but I don’t mind at all because this is my passion and I plan on going until I’m 120,” she jested.

Her diet includes broccoli, sweet potato and egg whites galore.

During competition, the ladies were judged over two rounds: bikini and evening wear.
