The event, attended by hundreds, mostly women and children, explained to the audience where and how to get help.
Among the speakers was Sgt Cebisa Maseko from the Boksburg SAPS Social Crime Prevention, who urged domestic abuse victims to report their abusers to the victim support centre, located at the police station.
“Even if you are financially dependent on the abuser, report the crime,” said Maseko.
She told the crowd that domestic violence includes physical, emotional and psychological abuse and any other abusive behaviour that threatens the victim’s well-being.
Other speakers at the campaign encouraged victims of domestic violence to break their silence and, if need be, get out of the relationship and seek help.
Also in attendance were the Comet community patrollers. -@FanieFLK
