BAC fields 97 Comrades runners

The Boksburg Athletic Club will be represented by a total of 97 athletes at the 92nd edition of the Comrades, which is the world’s oldest and largest ultra-marathon.

This year the Comrades is held on Sunday, June 4.

The 97 runners include 75 men and 22 women.

The senior runners of the two groups are 69-year-old Jabulani Ngwenya for the men and the quartet of Rita van Wyk, Linda Loxley, Jennifer Rogers and Teresa Peyerl for the women – who are all 54.

Fifty-six-year-old Carolyn Ridgway was initially the oldest woman runner of the group, but injury forced her to withdraw.

Vincent de Reuck and Eric Oaker will be vying for their green numbers while Dieter Muller and Theuns Coetzee will be looking to achieve the more impressive feat: double green numbers.

Coenie Berowsky will be running his 29th Comrades, of which all have been in BAC colours, making him the club member with the most Comrades medals. – @SabeloBoksburg
